Digital Assessment:
Quizizz
This digital assessment quiz was created with Quizizz. Quizizz is an online tool that allows anyone to create their own quiz that can be taken by multiple people at once. It is very similar the online quiz creators such as Kahoot, Gimkit, and Flipgrid. It works like a game because correct answers award power-ups which help the player. This is a unique feature that distinguishes Quizizz from other digital assessment tools.
Effective use of Quizizz is supported by the first three domains of Danielson's Framework: Planning and Preparation, Classroom environment, and Instruction. This tool ties into planning and preparation because the quiz is created before teaching and thought out before the instruction occurs. This means that the teacher must carefully plan out what should be included in the quiz. It also ties into classroom environment because it establishes an environment where learning is fun and interactive. Finally, it ties into instruction because it is another method of communicating concepts and ideas to students. It also does a phenomenal job of engaging the students which is essential for the most effective learning.
As a chemistry teacher, I see myself using this tech tool a lot. It is a very simple and fast way to check for student comprehension and gauge how much the students understand. I think it would be best used as a formative assessment device meaning I would implement it at the end of my lessons after a lecture. I hope that Quizizz will both help me gauge my students' level of comprehension and excite them to learn about chemistry.
When is comes to the four C's and the student ISTE standards, Quizizz is an excellent demonstrator of these. Creativity is exemplified through use of Quizizz because it allows the creator of the game to design it the way that he or she wants and lets them infuse their own unique touch to it. Also, it demonstrates critical thinking because it forces the person taking the quiz to decide what answer is correct. It also incentives the quiz taker to try their best in order to beat their peers and gain power ups which requires a good deal of critical thinking. The ISTE standard of Digital citizen is just one example that pertains to the use of Quizizz because it helps students mature in their use of technology. As the student takes the quiz and plays along he or she will realize that technology can be used for learning, not just entertainment. This will cause them to appreciate learning more and will enable them to be better digital learners.
